Some food for Thought...
By Malia Lazu
I am a Black Puerto Rican, Italian (with a bit of Irish, my great grandmother was a Mahoney from Cork) woman from Hawaii. Being mixed race, conversations like Bruno Mars culturally appropriating black music is on going and internal. When racially ambiguous people define their race or reflect part of their culture it seems to be fair game to be questioned. I’m also not sure I have a problem with that.

Written By Malia Lazu Image per Stanley Forman Racism comes in many forms, some of the most common are
overt, implicit, structural & institutional & it seems this Saturday Boston is going to get a dose of different several forms of racism, including overt, institutional and implicit racism. The overt and implicit will come from the “free speech” hate rally. But the institutional racism will come from the city of Boston by allowing permits to be pulled. Business trends of crowdsourcing are very exciting for the world of politics.
Crowdsourcing is a way to tap into the collective intelligence of people. It allows you to get the involvement of your target audience & create buy-in through their participation. There are some great business models, such as www.threadless.com, that are worth exploring. The basic idea at Threadless is that customers vote on the T-shirt design they feel should be produced. The incentive of seeing your shirt mass-produced & sold encourages the designer to get people involved in the website so that they will vote for their design. |
